How to select suitable inks when you screen printing?

Screen printing is a popular medium which could create high-quality, lasting prints. Selecting the right screen printing inks for your project is essential for getting perfect printing result.
So when you choose screen printing inks, enough knowledge of the ink types and their capabilities will helps you get the most from your screen printing works.

Solvent-based inks work well on glossy or plastic surfaces and provide excellent resistance to weathering and fading, while water-based inks are ideal for use on clothing as they are soft with great color vibrancy. UV-cured inks require special equipment and provide quick drying times and sharp details on non-porous materials such as metals and glass. Knowing the technical capabilities of each type of screen printing ink will ensure the best possible results for your project.

Solvent-Based Inks
Solvent-based inks are made with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are best suited for printing on very dense and hard surfaces, such as metal, plastic, wood, and glass. Additionally, they offer great vibrancy, durability, and chemical resistance. However, solvent-based inks emit VOCs, which can be hazardous to the environment, and they require a special film, making them more expensive to purchase.

Water-Based Inks
Water-based inks are made without VOCs and are a more eco-friendly option. They are more suitable for printing on fabrics because the inks will seep into the fabric and result in a very soft feel. While water-based inks will not provide the same level of vibrancy, durability, and chemical resistance as solvent-based inks, they are generally cheaper and easier to use.

UV-Cured Inks
UV-cured inks are designed for use with flatbed and rotary printers and are great for printing on both rigid and flexible substrates. These inks form a hard layer on the materials, which results in a high degree of durability and water resistance. Additionally, since UV-cured inks are cured with ultraviolet light, there are no VOCs released into the environment.
