Static electricity may be generated during the production, transportation and handling of printing materials. During printing, the surface of the printing material is often charged with static electricity due to low relative humidity and friction with the printing machinery. This static electricity can cause the printing materials to stick to each other before printing, making it difficult to separate and transport. After printing, it can cause the back of the printed product to be rubbed dirty. During printing, it can cause unstable feeding and inaccurate positioning, affecting the accuracy of overprinting. What's more, static electricity can cause dust in the air to be adsorbed onto the surface of the printing material, causing the screen printing plate to become dirty or spots on the printed image.
There are several ways to reduce or eliminate the static electricity effect on the printing material.
(1) The place where the printing material is stored and the printing workshop should maintain a certain relative humidity. Increase the relative humidity of the air to increase the conductivity of the surface of the printing material, thereby accelerating the transfer of charge.
(2) Install an electrostatic eliminator on the printing press. The electrostatic eliminator consists of a high-voltage transformer and two static rods. When the printing substrate generates static electricity, two static rods above or below the printing substrate ionize the surrounding air to form positive and negative ions, which adsorb and neutralize ions with opposite charges, thereby eliminating the static electricity on the printing substrate.
(3) Adding an antistatic agent or static eliminator to the ink can also reduce the static effect during the printing process.
